carpentry. But oh no, it’s Dentistry. One of the friends has got Porcelain
Veneer embedded on his teeth.
What is
Porcelain Veneer?
Porcelain Veneers, or Dental Veneers are wafer thin sheets of
porcelain that are designed to cover the frontal portion of the teeth. Veneers
usually are administered to fix various non-desirable qualities of a person’s
teeth, such as gaps, discolouration, misalignment and chipping of teeth.

Veneers come in different colours. One can select the colour
with respect to the colour of the teeth and can get it applied. The choices are

Embedding of Veneers on the teeth usually require three
appointments with the dentist, for the following:
1.
Diagnosis
and Treatment Planning
This
involves the active participation of the patient. This is where we establish
the results that we expect after the embedding. The dentist prepares in
accordance to our needs, and check to see if veneers are appropriate to us.
2.
Preparation
During the
phase, ½ inch of the enamel is trimmed from the front surface of the teeth.
This is approximately equal to the thickness of the veneer to be embedded. A
model of the teeth is created by the dentists, by creating an impression with
modelling dough. Respective to the model that is created, the veneers are
ordered by the dentist. The veneers may take a span of 2-4 weeks to be prepared
and arrive. During this span of time, a temporary veneer maybe attached, based
on the requisite.
3.
Bonding
This is the
final phase of the process. The veneer has arrived, and will be made to a
perfect fit by the dentist, who constantly trims the veneer accordingly. Then
the veneer would be bonded to the surface of the teeth with dental cement and
Voila! One beautiful smile has been resurrected again!
The colour of the Veneer can be modified by using the colour
of the cement that is used. This colour is generally selected based on the
colour of the teeth.
